The problem with air washers

Air washers in air conditioning equipment are used to optimize room temperature, room humidity and air purity. In order for the air conditioning to function properly both technically and hygienically, the water quality in the air washers must be regularly checked and adjusted. The moist environment is an ideal breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria and viruses.

Bacteria in water-bearing systems can exist in two states: floating freely in the water or fixed in a so-called biofilm. Embedded in slimy, viscous-tough extracellular polymeric substances, the inhabitants of a biofilm colonize all moist surfaces. Disinfection of the water itself usually leaves biofilms unaffected and is not an effective measure for preventing biofilms. Wherever moisture, dampness or standing water occurs and no suitable countermeasures are taken, new biofilms and germ growth is unavoidable. Therefore, hygienic air humidification is always also a fight against biofilms.
